Our signature product
Black Dog Outpost began with a personal interest in traditional soapmaking and natural skincare. What started as a hobby gradually became something more serious. The more I learned, the more I realised how many products on the market were padded out with fillers, overcomplicated ingredients, and things that simply did not need to be there.
I wanted to make something better. Simple, effective products built from ingredients that have a clear purpose.
I’m Joe, originally from Cornwall and now based in Essex. Black Dog Outpost brings that practical, no-nonsense approach into a small-batch skincare brand focused on making products that do the job well.
Much of what I make centres around tallow. Not because it is fashionable, but because it works. Tallow is rich in skin-supporting lipids and is structurally similar to those found in our own skin, which makes it particularly good at softening and conditioning. It is also often overlooked or treated as waste despite being a genuinely useful material.
The aim is straightforward. To make solid products from natural ingredients without unnecessary fillers, synthetic extras or anything added just to bulk things out or make a label sound clever.
Everything is made in Essex in small batches with care and close attention to consistency.
The name Black Dog Outpost comes from Charlie, my black dog, who is rarely far away. He has been part of it from the start, and the name stuck.
Simple skincare. Made properly.
